While at a residency in Finland in 2016, I found, in the attic of an old school, the notebook of a teenage girl written in 1981. With profound curiosity and help from the residency assistant, the notebook was translated from Finnish to English. I discovered pages and pages of tragic love poetry. Kikka's* text resonated with me deeply at the time and I commenced a project to preserve her words in various ways. Kikka (2019) consists of around 30 appropriated pieces of text from the notebook, embroidered into cloth and installed in a site-specific installation. This installation depicts a very small room strewn with words, attempting to portray the immense rumination provoked by love.
